"Coffee & Chips" is an informal lecture series exploring semiconductor and sensor technology in Europe.

The goal of this series is to create a meeting place for everyone interested in advanced microchip and sensor technology in Norway. Coffee and Chips gives companies the opportunity to promote their work, while researchers can share insights into the latest developments in their fields.


On September 11, we'll meet Robin Hoel from Texas Instruments, giving the talk: "Low Power WMCU Design - The hairy edge: striking a balance between low-power, performance and cost"


Texas Instruments has significantly expanded its in-house manufacturing capacity over the past several years. Alongside fab capacity, internal process nodes for chip design are critical components of the overall chip design strategy. This presentation will cover the following topics:

  • New process development — trade-offs

  • How to achieve area optimization through scaling

  • SoC architecture considerations when scaling down to lower process nodes

During his 19-year tenure as an architect at Texas Instruments, Robin has been instrumental in the success of multiple connectivity product families with combined sales of billions of units.


His unique multidisciplinary expertise enables him to drive excellence across the entire product lifecycle — from strategic technology selection to SoC architecture, design, and algorithm development.


His ability to challenge conventional approaches has led to several patents on innovations that differentiate TI's wireless products in the marketplace.
